University Students Union Leader Remand- Sri Lanka

Update:Sri Lanka's major university students’ union leader Sanjeewa Bandara has been remanded till September 25 by Colombo Fort Magistrate today. He was arrested yesterday by the Police.


Sri Lanka's major university students’ union leader Sanjeewa Bandara has been arrested by the Police short while ago. He is the convener of the Inter University Students' Federation (IUSF). Police says he is responsible over injurying police officers and destroying public property during a protest held August 29.
He was arrested by the police while his way to Sri Jayawardenepura University after finishing Protest and a Sathyagraha Campaign. He was arrested near Town Hall Colombo by Slave Island Police.

Recently IUSF leader and university students have launched several protests supporting university teachers strike and for the Z score issue.
IUSF,also known as Anthare is considered as major students’ union in Sri Lanka which is functioning majority of state universities and struggle against the government education privatization. IUSF was established in 1978 and comprises student unions representing 10 main universities and 6 other Higher Education institutions in Sri Lanka.
Early this year The Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) was charging that the government has a plan to ban it.
