Sri Lanka Higher Education Ministry has launched a new web site about University Leadership Training Program 2012. 
Through logging this web site students can check whether they have selected for the First Batch which scheduled to start December 27 to January 12, 2013.

The University leadership training programme for Sri Lankan students who have qualified to enter University for the 2011/2012 academic year will commence on December 27, 2012 media reports.
The programme is scheduled to start at 25 Army Camps islandwide, according to the Higher Education Ministry Director General of Students affairs Keerthi Mawella.

Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) had finally informed them that they would submit their proposals from next year and this time the program could go as scheduled.According to the media reports Program has reduced from three weeks to two week.

The Leadership Training Program 2012 for Sri Lankan University students would be delayed said the President of the Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Devasiri.

The Minister S.B. Dissanayake promised to conduct a wide discussion before starting the leadership training program this year and the program would delayed as scheduled November 15 he further said.

A Special discussion held yesterday between Higher Education Minister and FUTA officials regarding the issues of leadership training program for 2011/2012 academic year. 


The Sri Lankan Higher Education Ministry will seek the university academics' and Vice Chancellors' views on the on-going leadership training program. The ministry will make appropriate changes to the leadership program in accordance with the proposals and ideas of the academics and the VCs.

Sri Lanka university teachers’ broken demands

Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake, Ministry Secretary Dr. Sunil Jayantha, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof. Gamini Samaranayake and FUTA officials participated for the yesterday meeting.
Dr. Sunil Jayantha Navaratne said that they were in the process of implementing the promises and the UGC has already appointed a committee to study withdrawing of the circulars.

UGC Chairman has refused to cancel the circulars soon but mentioned UGC has to follow a procedure to cancel circulars.

A crucial discussion would be held tomorrow (November 1) between Sri Lankan Higher Education Ministry officials and Federation of University Teachers' Association (FUTA) regarding the broken promises and demands.
FUTA says that the Sri Lankan government has not fulfilled the promises granted to university teachers but the Sri Lankan Higher Education Ministry secretary Dr. Sunil Jayantha said that the government has taken all steps to fulfill the promises given to the university teachers.
Sri Lankan Higher Education Ministry secretary Dr. Sunil Jayantha said that a special committee has been appointed to provide solutions to the problem faced by the university lecturers.
The special committee met last week to discuss the demands of the university teachers. The committee has taken several decisions and decided to meet again on November 1st.
The government agreed to withdraw all circulars issued that hinder the progressive of university activities. Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri said that the government had not taken any initiative to honor the pledges given to them, saying that a circulars are not yet withdraw.

Committee to solve Sri Lanka University lecturers' Problem

A special committee has been appointed by Sri Lanka's Higher Education Ministry to provide solutions to the problem faced by the university lecturers.

Sri Lankan Higher Education Ministry secretary Dr. Sunil Jayantha said that a special committee appointed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) met last week to discuss the demands of the university teachers. Above committee has taken several decisions and decided to appoint several committee members to study about the circulars affecting the university teachers and also decided to meet next Tuesday.

Sri Lanka’s longest university lecturer’s strike which runs over three months has called off  on October 11.

The government agreed to withdraw all circulars issued that hinder the progressive of university activities. Federation of University Teachers Association (FUTA) Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri said that the government had not taken any initiative to honor the pledges given to them, saying that a circulars are not yet withdraw.

Meanwhile Sri Lankan Higher Education Ministry secretary Dr. Sunil Jayantha said that the Sri Lankan government has taken all steps to fulfill the promises given to the university teachers.
