718 Sri Lankan University Lecturers Breached the bonds

The Auditor General's Department says that university lecturers who are engaged in academic activities overseas should pay a sum of Rs.644 million to the department for violating bond conditions.

The Auditor General, H.A.S. Samaraweera said that a total of 718 such lecturers have breached the bond conditions in the year 2010 and 2011.
Under bond conditions, lecturers who visit overseas universities to continue their education, have to serve in the country for a certain period.
H.A.S. Samaraweera said that the above information came to light following a audit investigation that was carried out.

  1. FUTA should ensure that their colleagues honour their bonds before finding fault with the government for taking disciplinary action against one lecturer. FUTA's actions should be two ways not just selfish and political motives for their gain only.
