Sri Lanka University Students to Face Mental health test

Sri Lanka Ministry of Higher Education sources say that measures are underway to conduct a psychological evaluation or a Mental Health Test for the freshmen students of the universities.
Chairman of the University Grants Commission Prof. Kshanika Hirimburegama said that the Commission was discussing the issue with the relevant authorities.
She told media that the University Grants Commission was considering the Mental health test due to the recent developments in the universities.
The government has already introduced a mandatory leadership training program as a solution to instill confidence and leadership qualities in students to resolve the problem.
Sri Lanka's universities are famous for notorious ragging, student protests and violence. Frequent clashes among Student groups are common resulting in injuries to students and loss of academic activities.

Recently, several university students have also committed suicides in the premises due to ragging or academic pressure.

  1. Sri Lanka University students do not have to face mental health checks if UGC admits the students to universities without undue delay. The students who sat for the GCE A/Ls in 2012 still has not got the opportunity to send in their applications for University admissions due to UGC authorities dilly dallying. It is 10 months since the 2012 students sat for their A/Ls but still the uni admissions book is not released. I wonder whether UGC authorities have children of their own?
