Meteor shower Sri Lanka till April 25


One of the oldest known annual Meteor Shower (Ulkapatha Warshawak) , known as Lyrids, will be visible in Sri Lanka until April 25, says Director, Astronomy and Space Science Unit, University of Colombo Prof. Chandana Jayaratne.

රී ලංකාවාසීන්ට දැකබලා ගැනීමේ අවස්ථාව

Sri Lankan public will be able to witness bright meteors that will streak across the sky for nearly four days starting from the 10th of this month owing to the upcoming Perseid meteor shower, which will be heavily visible in the local skies.
According to the officials of the local Planetarium on the the 10th of this month, the public will be able to witness about 10 to 15 meteors per hour that will streak across the sky.
During the following three days, which leads up to 13th of this month, there would be around  50 meteors per hour.  Extract from News360

රකට උල්කාපාත වර්ෂාවක් වන පර්සීඞ් උල්කාපාත වර්ෂාව මෙම මස 10 හා 13 යන දිනයන්හිදී උපරිම ත්වීරතාවයෙන් දර්ශනය වන බව රී ලංකා රහලෝකාගාරය රකාශ කරයි. පසුගිය ජූලි මාසයේ සිට රම රමයෙන් වර්ධනය වුණ මෙම උල්කාපාත වර්ෂාවෙන් අගෝස්තු 10 වනදා වනවිට පැයකට උල්කාපාත 15ක් පමණ අගෝස්තු 11,12 සහ 13 යන දිනයන් වන විට පැයකට උල්කාපාත 50 ක් පමණ වශයෙන් දර්ශනය වන බවත් අහස හරහා ඇදී යන දීප්තිමත් ආලෝකධාරා වශයෙන් මෙම උල්කාපාත පියවි ඇසට දැකගත හැකි වන බව රහලෝකාගාරය රකාශ කරයි. වළාකුළුවලින් තොර පැහැදිළි අහසක් පැවතියහොත් ඉහත දිනයන්හිදී මධ්යම රාතරියේ සිට පසුදා පාන්දර වනතෙක් ඊසාන දිග අහස නිරීක්ෂණය කිරීමෙන් මෙය දැක බලා ගත හැකිය.

උල්කා යනු අභ්යවකාශයේ පාවෙමින් පවතින කුඩා පාෂාණ කැබලි හෝ ලෝහ කැබලි පෘථිවිය කරා ඇද වැටෙන විට ඒවාට උල්කාපාත යැයි කියනු ලැබේ. සාමාන්යයෙන් වසරකට ටොන් 1500 පමණ උල්කා වැනි අභ්යවකාශ ද්රව් පෘථිවි ගුරුත්වාකර්ෂණ බලයට හසුවී පොලොවකරා ඇද වැටේ. මේවායෙන් බොහොමයක් මහ පොළොව මත පතනය නොවී පෘථිවි වායුගෝලය හා ගැටී දැවී අලූ වී විනාශ වී යයි. රාතරියට තරු කඩා වැටෙනවා ලෙස අප දකින්නේ මෙසේ පිළිස්සෙමින් වැටෙන උල්කා මෙම පර්සීඞ් උල්කාපාත වර්ෂාවට හේතුවනුයේ ස්විෆ්ට් ටට්ල් නම් ධූම කේතුවයි. වසර 133 කට වරක් අපේ සූර්යයා වටා ගමන් කරන මෙම ධූම කේතුව තමා යන ගමන් මාර්ගයේ උල්කා කැබලි අතුරමින් යයි. පෘථිවිය මෙම ධූම කේතුව ගමන් කල මාර්ගය හරහා යන විට එම උල්කා පාථිවි වායුගෝලය හා ගැටී පර්සීඞ් උල්කාපාත වර්ෂාව ඇති කරයි. පර්සීඞ් උල්කාපාත වර්ෂාවට එම නම ලැබී ඇත්තේ පර්සියස් නම් තාරකා රාශියේ සිට පෘථිවිය කරා උල්කාපාත විසිරෙන ආකාරයෙන් එය දර්ශනය වන නිසා .

මේ පිළිබඳව තව දුරටත් අදහස් දක්වන රහලෝකාගාරය පවසන්නේ මෙම වර්ෂය අවසානයේ තවත් උල්කා වර්ෂා කිහිපයක්ම පෙනුනත් වර්ණවත් වැඩි උල්කාපාත රමාණයක් දෙසැම්බර් මස 14 වන දා මිථුන රාශිය අසලින් පෙනෙන ජෙමිනිඞ්ස් උල්කා වර්ෂාව මගින් දැකගත හැකිවන බවය.
