Kelaniya University Students Protest

The Students’ Council of Kelaniya University held a protest march to demand the government to resolve hostel issues and withdraw the extra special gazette that allows legalization of private universities in Sri Lanka.
The protestors marched from the University complex to Fort Colombo and held a rally.

களனிப் பல்கலைக்கழக மாணவர் அமைப்பானது விடுதி சம்பந்தமான பிரச்சினையைத் தீர்க்குமாறும் தனியார் பல்கலைக்கழகங்களை அனுமதித்தல் தொடர்பான நிலையை மீளப்பெறுமாறும் அரசாங்கத்திடம் கோரிக்கையை முன்வைக்கும் முகமாக பேரணி ஒன்றை நடாத்தினர்.

பேரணியினர் பல்கலைக்கழக வளாகத்தில் இருந்து கொழும்புக் கோட்டையை நோக்கி ஊர்வலமாகச் சென்றனர். (Transalted- Kisoth)

Peradeniya University protest March

The Students’ Council of Peradeniya University held a protest march (Oct 2nd) to demand the government to withdraw immediately the extra special gazette that allows legalization of private universities and solve issues that exist in universities.
The protestors marched from the University complex to Kandy town and held a rally at the Clock Tower in Kandy town. President of Students’ Council Dimuthu Gunasekera addressed the students.
පෟද්ගලික විශ්වවිද්යාල නීතිගත කිරීමට සම්මත කරගත් අති විශේෂ ගැසට් පතරය වහා හකුලා ගන්නා ලෙස බලකරමින් සහ විශ්වවිද්යාලය තුළ පවතින ගැටලූවලට වහා විසඳුම් ඉල්ලා පේරාදෙණිය විශ්වවිද්යාලයීය මහා ශිෂ් සංගමය  (02) පා ගමනක් සංවිධානය කර තිබිණි.

South Eastern University Students Clash - 53 students remanded

53 students including 3 female students of the South Eastern University in Samanthurai were remanded till October 8th by the Samanthurai Magistrate today.
The students were remanded following a clash between two student factions last night. At least 23 university students injured due to clash between Oluvil Campus & Samanthurai faculty students of South Eastern University of Sri Lanka SEUSL.

Police says that about 40 students were arrested.20  students were hospitalized to Samanthurai Hospital.

The reason for the clash was a Hostel issue and at the moment Police team is giving the protection for students.


The police said 6 female students were among those who sustained injuries in the clash. Applied Science faculty of the university has been closed indefinitely as a result of the clash.

20 Sabaragamuwa University Students Suspended

Sabaragamuwa University decided to suspended 20 students from university over involvement of ragging.

“These students are from Arts faculty and they are suspended over false charges” Inter University Students’ Federation spokesperson said.

Students’ union hopes to launch a protest against the suspension of students from the University he further said.

Last month University officials have suspended the studentship of 17 students over threatening lecturers of the university. www.lankauniversity-news.com
