18 Sri Jayewardenepura University Students suspended

Sri Jayewardenepura University Students undergrads suspended
Sri Jayewardenepura University administration has decided to suspend the studentships of 18 undergraduates allegedly involved in assaulting its security officers and causing damage to university property recently.

The majority facing suspensions were from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, sources said.

They said those 18 had been accused of instigating other students to attack the university’s security officials on the night of Feb 24. Three members of the security staff had been injured in the attack. The security staff members had identified the students who had assaulted them and had handed over information pertaining to those students to the university administration.

The suspension decision had been taken on the basis of that information, a senior official of the university said.

The members of the non-academic staff of the university staged a demonstration and boycotted work on Tuesday (25) condemning the attack and demanding action against the attackers.
