Post Basic School of Nursing (PBSN) Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka Nurses will be able to obtain university degrees through the Post Basic Nursing School in Colombo soon.

Sri Lanka Health Ministry says the government has decided to uplift a major nursing school, the Post Basic School of Nursing (PBSN) as a degree awarding university for nursing. The Colombo Post Basic School of Nursing will be upgraded as a university campus affiliated to the Colombo University.

Nurses who enter this new faculty can follow degrees equivalent to state university degrees. The Post Basic Nursing School will follow the same university entrance procedure as that of other universities when offering admission to nurses.

A special committee has been set up with the representation of the University Grant Commission (UGC), the Higher Education Ministry and Health Ministry to formulate the syllabus, look into outstanding matters and with regard to other procedures. The degree course will be four years in duration.

  2. First and foremost, i would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the association by taking bolder step to further professionalize the nursing profession in Sri Lanka. On my part as a registered nurse and academic administrator in one of the colleges in the Philippines, i was somehow became interested on your website since i was teaching Indian medical students here in the Philippines. And aside from that i was doing some research background on the history of Sri Lanka because we are expecting some visitors to come here in the Philippines from the Sri Lanka Medical Council, it strucked my mind somehow to find out on how your country train nurses and to look for possible ways on how my school can form a mutual academic relations. I was impressed by the recent developments on strengthening the role of nurses in Sri Lanka. I hope that we from the ASEAN region could collaborate with your association in the near future. More power to the success of your endeavors.
