Students who are assigned for clinicals in the medical section has to work from 8 p.m. to 12 midnight once a week in the casualty ward and the next morning they have to report for clinicals at 7.30a.m. Although the medical students are supposed to work only till midnight on the day they work in the casualty ward they can not leave the ward at least till 2.00a.m. due to the heavy number of patients that are brought in during the night. Rather than claiming and researching that Sri Lanka University students especially the Colombo medical faculty students are under high degree of stress the professors should take remedial action to give a work load which a student in her early twenties could handle. No human being could work all seven days of the week. The learned professors and trained counsellors should at least give one free day for the medical students of the Colombo Medical faculty. Already a student has dropped out due to high pressure. It is no point presenting statistics saying so many students from each faculty are under stress or that Sports, Art and Literature are important while following intense study programmes if the university administrators do not give the students at least one day per week as a rest day.
