Sri Lankan main
university lecturers Trade Union,Federation of University Teachers Associations
(FUTA) has issued a special letter to Minister Basil Rajapaksa mentioning that
the government is yet to come through on the promises that it gave to FUTA.
Chairman of FUTA
Dr.Nirmal Ranjith Devasiri points out that vice chancellors of
universities do not pay any attention to the agreements that the
university teachers reached with the government.
Dr Nirmal Devasiri
added that through the letter, the FUTA aimed to highlight that it would be
difficult to carry out its activities in such a backdrop.
'As the FUTA, we
handed over a letter to Minister Basil Rajapaksa. We informed our displeasure
regarding the implementation of the agreements made. Nothing which should have
been done by now, has been done. An internal problem in the universities
is that majority of the vice chancellors are acting upon the conditions that
existed prior to the the trade union action. These agreements
were made taking into consideration various criticisms we made regarding the university system, but we cannot see the agreement being respected. We handed over the letter expressing our displeasure in this regard,' stated the Chairman of FUTA.
