updated: Registration of the new students who passed the Law entrance exam held
in August 2012 has been postponed by one week said the Principal of the Law

A tense situation arose
yesterday outside Law College when demonstrators attempted to handover a
petition to the principal at Hulftdrop alleging a majority of students selected
to the collage this year were Muslims students.
The Sri Lanka Law College
has postponed by one week the registration of new students for the year 2013,
in the wake of protests and clashes following reports of alleged irregularities
during the college’s entrance exam.
The decision was announced
this morning by the principal of the law college, secretary of the law faculty
students’ union Eranda S. Wanasinghe said.
The institute had commenced
the process of enrolling the 309 students selected through the entrance exam
held in August 2012.
155 Sinhala medium students,
133 Tamil medium students and 21 English medium students had gained entry to
the law College.
Some media Reports that, Sri Lankan, Police have received information that the Law College entrance
paper held last year had leaked out. There was a huge uproar that a higher
unusual percentage of Muslim students had passed to gain admission to the Law
College. It has also been revealed that the Minister of Justice had not acted
impartially in this matter.
The CID has found out
that the question paper at the Law College entrance examination has been
leaked. The CID has questioned a Muslim lawyer in Wellawatta who is conducting
Law College entrance tuition classes in Tamil regarding the leaking of the

at his classes are said to be Muslim students from Colombo North, who
incidentally had obtained the best marks at this year’s exam. The CID has
received the names and addresses of all those students.
It will also question
a senior official of the attorney general’s department, with whom the suspect
has had close connections.

Scholarship Cut off Marks for Popular Schools
The Education Ministry released the cut-off marks for students
who sat the August 2012 Grade Five Scholarship Examination to gain admission to
The highest cut-off mark, 183 was for Royal College and Visakha
Vidyalaya in Colombo. The second highest, 179 was for Ananda College, Colombo
and Dharmaraja College, Kandy, while the marks for Nalanda College, Colombo and
Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala was 177. The second highest cut off marks for
girls schools 179 was for Mahamaya Balika in Kandy.The highest cut off mark for
mixed schools, 170, 168 and 167 were for Thakshila MV Horana, Dharmapala MV,
Pannipitiya and Wayamba Rajakeeya Vidyalaya in Kurunegala respectively.
According to the Education Ministry, the cut-off mark for students to
gain admission to Tamil Medium schools through the Grade Five scholarship exam
would be released soon.
