appeal to the UGC in written.
Students should forward a written appeal to the UGC
along with the documentary evidence in support of the appeal.
A photocopy of the appeal application form in the UGC
admission handbook could be used as the appeal format.
Appeal should be forwarded to the UGC within four

But yet if UGC can mention the EXACT FACULTY , rather than JUST COURSE ( eg;- MEDICINE, University of Colombo or Peradeniya) , it would be really a lot helpful. Because as we all know, many are waiting to find residence around Universities that they expect to go. So if we can get the exact faculty too, it ll be much easier for us to find a place, without getting into much troubles .
This is just an opinion, Im really grateful to UGC.

DeleteDid u put any of those courses at higher preference than the course u now have? Is ur z score enough for that course? If yes for both questions, that means u have not passed the exam. But if u put it at a lower preference and now want it, or ur z score is not enough, just try appealing. If there r vacancies and if u had passed, they will give u the course. Or better way, just call ugc and ask....

it's unfair to neglect the students of old syllabus with high result as well as with high z scores only by considering the ratio. we cant say that ratio is exactly matching this year too. old syllabus students of kegalle district bio science stream have effected by this ratio.may be that's because of in 2012 the students sat for 3rd shy from kegalle district are more or although they are small crowed they have done the exam better than ever before.

DeleteIt is hereby informed that the University Grants Commission decided to consider the students who sat for G.C.E. (A/L) Examination held in year 2012 under old syllabus and new syllabus as two distinct populations as directed by the Supreme Court. Therefore, the University Grants Commission appointed an Expert Committee to propose criteria as to how the selection of students to Universities is made for the academic year 2012/2013, based on the Z-Scores obtained by them at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination held in year 2012.
Based on the recommendations made by the said Expert Committee, the UGC in consultation with the Admissions Committee of the UGC in accordance with Section 15 (vii) of the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978, made following decisions.
The composite average of students admitted to universities through their first and second attempts during the five year period from year 2006 to 2010 for each degree programme on an all island merit and district merit from each district should be the ratio for the selection of students who sat for the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination under new syllabus in year 2012.
The composite average of students admitted to Universities through their third attempt during the five year period from year 2006 to 2010 for each degree programme on an all island merit and district merit from each district should be the ratio for the selection of students who sat for the G.C.E (A/L) Examination under old syllabus in year 2012.
Accordingly, the selection of students to universities based on the Z-Scores of the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination held in year 2012 for the Academic Year 2012/2013 will be made in accordance with the above decisions subject to the rules and regulations to be issued with the Handbook on “Admission to Undergraduate Courses of the Universities in Sri Lanka” in due course for the Academic Year 2012/2013.
