Japura University 21 Medical Faculty Students Suspended

First time in the history, 21 students of Japura University medical faculty suspended classes who involved in a peaceful protest on Last Wednesday against Selling Medical Degrees.


Among the 21 students who were suspended are 19 second year students, third year and fourth year students and 2 para-medical students.

Medical Faculty Students’ Action Committee (MFSAC) charged that the suspension of the 21 students of the University was a result of the extreme politicisation prevailing in the state university system.

There hasn’t been any suspension of students for the period of 22 years since the Faculty of Medicine in the University was founded in 1991 until the present authorities carried out the sordid deed say students.

The Federation of University Teachers’ Association (FUTA) has said it would appear on behalf of the students as they have acted to preserve the medical degree for the future of Sri Lanka’s children.
The Medical students of Jayewardenepura University held a protest march and an agitation yesterday (5th) protesting against selling the medical degree and demanding the removal of 13 fee paying students admitted to the Faculty of Medicine.
The students commenced the protest march from Jayewardenepura University marched to Wijerama junction and engaged in an agitation.

The students complain that the medical degree has been sold for Rs.7.5 million under the new amendments to the Tertiary Education Bill and the 13 students have been admitted under this scheme to sell the medical degree.


ශ්රී ජයවර්ධනපුර විශ්වවිද්යාලයේ වෛද්යපීඨයේ සිසුන් 21දෙනෙකු වහාම ක්රියාත්මක වන පරිදි අද (08) සිට පන්ති තහනමකට ලක්කර තිබේ.
මෙම පන්ති තහනමට ලක් කළ සිසුන් 21දෙනා අතර දෙවන වසරේතෙවන වසරේ සහ සිවුවන වසරේ සිසුන් 19 දෙනෙක්ද, සම සෞඛ් සිසුන් දෙදෙනෙක්ද සිටිති.
තවදුරටත් ඔවුන්ගේ පන්ති තහනම ක්රියාත්මක නොකිරීමට අවශ් කරුණු දැක්වීම සඳහා ලබන 11 වෙනිදා හේතු දක්වන ලෙසද දන්වා ඇත.
1991 ආරම්භ කළ තම වෛද්යපීඨය ගතවූ වසර 22 කාලය තුළ කිසිදු ශිෂ්යයෙකුගේ පන්ති තහනම් කිරීමක් සිදුවී නැති නමුත් ඉතහාසයේ පළමු වතාවට වත්මන් පාලකයින් විසින් සිසුන්ට පන්ති තහනමක් ක්රියාත්මක කර ඇති බවත් එහි ශීෂ් ශිෂ්යාවෝ පවසති.

මෙම ශිෂ්යයින් පන්ති තහනමට ලක්වූයේ අනාගත වෛද් උපාධිය වෙනුවෙන් හඬ නැගීමේ වරදට බැවින් ඔවුන් වෙනුවෙන් පෙනී සිටින බව විශ්වවිද්යාල ආචාර්ය සංගමයද පවසා තිබේ
