University Students Trapped Hantana- 450 Rescued Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan Army operation launched in search of University students who were trapped in the Hanthana Forest Reserve has been successful.
A group of 450 Sri Lankan University students  from Jaffna University and Sri Jayawardenepura University   who were trapped while hiking the Hantana Mountain, Kandy yesterday due to bad weather condition were rescued by the Sri Lanka Army today morning (December 17).

Army Spokesman said that some 43 students were admitted to the Peradeniya hospital. Among them 42 are female students.


About 450 university students from Jaffna University(Vavuniya Campus) and Sri Jayawardenepura University were stranded within the Hanthana Forest Reserve in Kandy. Operation staged by the Army helped to trace the missing students.


They were stranded in the forest due to thick fog,mist and Cold which surfaced as a result of torrential heavy rain experienced in the region last night.
  
The Hantana Mountain is a favorite destination among the University Students in Sri Lanka.University of Peradeniya is situated adjacent to the Hanthana mountain range.
