The
teachers' unions have threatened to take legal action against several schools
that have refused to admit students who have passed the Grade Five Scholarship
exam.
The Ceylon
Teachers' Service Union (CTSU) yesterday said they will take legal action as
the Ministry of Education has not issued the cut-off marks of several prominent
schools, insinuating that they are not open to take in new students.
"The cut-off marks for Richmond College,
Galle, Rahula College, Matara and Isipathana College, Colombo, have not been
issued. They are not on the list of schools at all. This shows that they are
not facilitating the admission of new entrants. Students worked hard to pass
the examination, and there would be a large number who are hoping to enter
those schools. Now they don't have that opportunity," CTSU General
Secretary, Mahinda Jayasinghe, said.
Furthermore,
the number of openings to admit new students has also decreased in most of
these schools, when compared to the number of students who were admitted last
year, he said.
Newspaper attempts
to contact the Education Ministry authorities to clarify the reasons for
several schools not being included in the cut-off marks list was not
successful.

ReplyDeleteHemantha Dharmathilake,
ReplyDeleteWe believe that most popular schools in top of the list, they have reduced the number of students going to recruit this year . this is very unfair to the students who kept the hopes . We believe, there were lot of interim admission in recent past through some political influences. this is actually a disgrace to the free education.
