Kavitha Talent Show Final - Sri Lanka University

The Grand Finale of the Kavitha (Talent) show will be held at Nelum Pokuna theatre on February 21 and 23 under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Higher Education Minister SB Dissanayake said.
The Kavitha talent show is organised by the Higher Education Ministry aiming to create a platform for university students to showcase their creative talents in various aesthetic fields.
All arrangements have been finalised for the Kavitha grand finale show, which will be held in the Sinhala and Tamil mediums. The Tamil Medium Kavitha grand finale show will be held on February 21 under the patronage of Minister SB Dissanayake and Douglas Devananda while the Sinhala Medium show will be held on February 23 under the patronage of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
"Kavitha was introduced for university undergraduates and students studying in higher educational institutes to identify their talents and capabilities. Besides, to create a platform for them to showcase their talents"
The talent show will be held in 27 categories, such as, music, cinema,dancing, electronic media , photography, script writing, stage drama, painting, literate categories etc. Students could participate in one or more categories. Students' performances in each category was evaluated by a professionals in that particular field. Accordingly, nine evaluating panels have been appointed, which was lead by nine renowned persons to evaluate performances.
Higher Education Ministry Secretary Sunil Jayantha Navarathne said the winners of the Kavitha show will be awarded cash prizes together with a valuable trophy.
Three prizes will be awarded under each 27 categories. The first place of each category will be awarded a Rs 100,000 prize while the second and third places will be awarded Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 in cash prizes respectively. The Ministry will spend Rs 12 million for cash awards.
"University students should play an active role in society. Our objective is to produce a perfect graduate with theoretical and practical knowledge" Minister Dissanayake said.
