Much awaited University
Admission Hand Book for the 2012/2013 Academic year has been printed and will be available to students from the end of
this month or First Week July University Grants Commission Chairperson Prof. Kshanika
Hiriburegama told the LankaUniversity-News.
The Sri Lankan University
Grants Commission (UGC) would call applications for the 2012/2013 Academic year
university admissions based on the 2012 GCE A/L examination from the first
weeks of July Month.
The admission of new
students will take place in next October.
Around 25,000 students are to be admitted to the universities.
The university intake based
on 2012 results was delayed due to the previous year’s intake being held up
over the Z-score fiasco and a Supreme Court order to enhance the intake
UGC Chairperson said.
UGC Hand book, a student
guide that contains the application form will be available at major bookshops
soon. The form should be filled carefully and all courses that the candidate
qualifies should be mentioned according to his or her preference and sent to
the University Grants Commission.
UGC have added several new
courses to the new university entrance handbook .
Aptitudes Tests details, Z
score Cut Off MARKS release dates & University Leadership Training details will
be informed near future via Newspapers & Media.

Is this a reliable news? because there has been many false news regarding handbook issue
ReplyDeleteToday is the 26th of June and already the end of the month but no news of the University Admission Handbook being released to major bookshops. Only around 25,000 students are admitted if they could admit more of 2011 A/L batch why can't they admit more from the 2012 A/L batch also. University of Moratuwa has the facilities to accomodate more students for Engineering faculties. I hope UGC is not planning to have a foreign students intake.
ReplyDeleteStudents in Sri-Lanka are very lucky. We have all our education free of charge from the beginning, not like other countries! Local students in foreign countries have to pay for all of their education including higher education.
ReplyDeleteIn every other Western Country - Aus, UK, Canada etc. all allow 8-10% of their admissions - allocated for foreign students. Those foreign students are paying more than the locals but they have been selected based on their excellent A-level results.
The money being brought in by the foreign students will hopefully be used for the creation of better academic and co-curricular facilities.
On the other hand, there are Sri-Lankan students who have passed their A-levels and are not selected to State universities, they go abroad to study - paying a large sum of money to do so. The countries that they go to - I'm sure they are not against foreign students, in fact they have a higher percentage (8-10) in those countries.
The Sri Lankan government is aiming to bring up the standards of all Sri-Lankan universities by the admission of more foreign students. Hopefully the Sri-Lankan universities will be able to get in to the top 1000 or even the top 500 universities in the world!
If the Sri Lankan government aims to bring up the standards of Sri Lankan universities they have to increase the standard of lecturing, the content of course material, teaching environment including lecture halls, canteens and toilets, teaching methods and teaching equipment and hostels. By merely admitting foreign students to local universities they can not hoodwink the regulators who rank universities in the world.
DeleteOhhhh Realy.... Govt. wants to bring up standards.... But as far as i can feel govt. fucks free education every second.....

ReplyDeleteIt's a big help if UGC can make arrangements to start universities even during the first week of December this year. After all whom can we tell our grievances to? The Higher Education ministry is only concerned about getting foreign students and setting up mushroom private universities affiliated to unheard of foreign universities.
