Moratuwa Campus Re Open Next Week

Moratuwa University Engineering Faculty and Institute of Technology will re-open next week.
NDT students have given an assurance not to have any confrontations with engineering undergraduates said Moratuwa University Vice Chancellor Prof. Ananda Jayawardena.
He further said the exact date would be decided after getting the recommendations from the Faculty Board.
The Engineering Faculty and Institute of Technology were closed indefinitely on January 17 after a violent attack on the Engineering Faculty male hostel.

  1. It is very unfortunate that Moratuwa Engineering students have to face violence due to the presence of National Diploma Technicians (NDT) students. Moratuwa University is closed due to the brutal incidents that occurred in the university premises the night prior to the final year engineering undergraduates’ final examinations. Closure of the Moratuwa University due to clashes between the NDT students and Engineering undergraduates has become an annual event in the Moratuwa University calendar. For almost last fifteen years we have heard that NDT students will be shifted to a new campus in Homagama and it has taken almost ten years for deeds of the land to be transferred from one department to another. It is said that the construction work has commenced last year but it is anybody’s guess when the work will be completed and NDT students will be relocated.
Another option is to divide the NDT students into two technical colleges that are available at present until such time the Homagama campus is constructed.
